Today as well as editing I have been trying to drum up some advertisement for our documentary. This is the poster I made to put on facebook and twitter so we can get people talking about our project.

Facebook page update

We now have 82 likes on our facebook page so we are doing really well and have great support! We have asked our twins to invite their friends and family to like the page to so we can advertise it that way aswell. We will release links to our website on this page when the series is released to the public.

Filming Finished

So today we finished filming! The last day was filming our expert for the section, 'Twinformation.' So off we went back to our old school where we both took psychology to interview our old teacher on psychological theories about twins. We didnt need a lighting kit as the school is so bright so we were prepared with all of our kit. The shoot went well and we filmed his set up aswell. Now all the filming is done, we must now crack on with the editing!

Editing Episode 1

The editing for episode 1 is going really well. There are a few sound issues as only one camera recorded the sound and so this made linking up the sound a lot more difficult as I had to lip read to sync them but that is all sorted now and I can begin cutting. Charlotte, Victoria and their mum Carol gave us really good answers and they were all really good talks and so we have a lot of good footage it is going to be hard trying to decide what bits to keep and what to cut out.

It's all really coming together now and me and maddie are both getting really excited to see all our hard work come together.

Twinformation

The sections we have asked our expert to talk about are:
  • An overview of twin studies and why they are used.
  • Twin telepathy - can twins really tell what the other is thinking
  • Twin Pain - can twins feel each others pain
  • Twin Dreams - do twins dream the same

And we sent him a few links we thought would help:

The Shoot with the Mac Twins

We have been liaising with the Mac Twin's management for a few months now and today we finally got to meet the girls. The girls were absolutely amazing and they were so professional and being presenters they knew exactly what we wanted and therefore this was definitely our smoothest shoot yet.

I can't wait to start editing and see what our final episodes will look like all together.

Our Logo

Holly has finished our logos now and so we can start marketing the series. As our all 3 of our episodes contain girls we have decided to use a banner where the stick people have no dresses on so that the series isn't marketed as being gender biased. For each episode the logo is slightly different. The stick people are always in little pink dresses but their positions change to give a bit of individuality to each episode. If we were to make other series in the future these logos could be easily changed so that instead of stick girls in pink dresses there would be stick boys in little blue trousers or even one of each for girl boy twins.

We also have a set of stick people on there own without any text so that we can use this as our profile pictures on different websites such as Facebook and Twitter. And again we decided not to put dresses or trousers on these stick people so that we didn't market the series as a gender biased series.

Today is the launch of our NEW Facebook page promoting Seeing It From Both Sides

Our Expert

When trying to find research for our expert to talk about we found it really difficult as there is not much twin studies that have actually been carried out by pyschologists.
This is a website I found that explains twin studies;

Shoot prep- Questions revised

On our last shoot I was reading out the questions to the contributors and found that we hadnt written out the questions in a clear and concise order so it was confusing for us and them and didnt make us look very proffesional. So this time I have deceided to write them out in a order that is easy to understand for me and not confusing for them to answer.

Victoria and Charlotte questions
Who is the oldest?
How identical are you both?
What was life like when you were little?
Where you dressed the same?

What is school like, separate friends/separate classes?

Has either of you got a boyfriend?

Has this ever affected your bond?

Is there ever any jealousy?

Does this instigate competitiveness, are you competitive?

If one of you is in pain does the other one of you feel it?

Have you ever had any twin intuition/thinking the same?

Have you ever switch places?

Do you argue much?

Because your personalities are so similar to you feel more confident together?

Do you spend a lot of time apart?

Do you like being a twin?

Re-Casting

Originally we had cast a set of 2 year olds and we were going to interview their parents but I have tried many times to get in contact with them and I haven't heard anything back and so we have had to re-cast. I had a message on Facebook from a girl who was interested in taking part. I got in touch with her and her and her identical twin sister were more than happy to step in. They are 16 year olds and they are from Essex. I will set up a Skype interview with them so I can ask them my questions and get to know their personalities.

1st shoot done

Susan Fordham and Sarah Woodward
So last night we filmed episode three of Seeing It From Both Sides with Susan and Sarah, our 40 year old twins. Hennie, Dean and I headed to essex for the shoot that took place in Sues home. When we arrived we thought the lighting was good but when we turned on the cameras we realised it was far too dark. Luckily we had one lighting kit with us so we were able to set that up to create some really nice light.

The interview went really well with all questions being answered in a really good and interesting way. The challenges were fun and we decided to do three challenges in the end; word association, drawing and the cracker challenge.  The results of these challenges proved to us some twintuition so we were really pleased with it!

So it is just on with the edit now!

One had a Gastric Bypass and the Other Didn't

This is an article about two over weight identical twins where one had a gastric bypass surgery on the NHS and lost 11 stone and the other is still over weight. It is interesting to see how it changes their relationship.

School Twin Research

Today I spoke to my mum, who is head of special education at a primary school, about her schools policy on twins when twins join a school. She said that what is usually done is a meeting is set up with the parents to discuss what will be best for that specific set of twins. She has also said, that was interesting,if twins are put togeather in the same class it usually hinders there social development not learning. This is because Bedonwell Junior School found that there is usually a dominent twin who will speak out and answer for the less dominent twin therefore hindering twin number twos social learning. They have found no differenec in educational development when considering splitting up twins or keeping them togeather.

Having a Genetic Copy

http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/lifestyle/arts/a-twin-take-on-imitation-artwork-1-4156226

This is a very good article about a Radio 4 programme “DOES an original work of art have more value than a copy...and if so, why?” Twins Lindsey and Karen joined in the discussion and this is what they had to say.
“Our part in it was to discuss what it is like to have a genetic copy of yourself, do you feel the same and what are your differences?”
But what was it like as a twin being involved in a discussion about ‘copies’?
Karen said: “We don’t get offended if people mix us up and we don’t feel any less individual if people mix us up, but then we don’t know any different. I look at Lindsey and it is like looking in a mirror.
“We don’t feel we have to go out of our way to be the same or different. We have similar hair but that is the way we feel our hair suits us. We might look more different if we were striving for individuality but we don’t feel any less of a person because there is someone very similar to us either.”

Freak Like Me

We want our documentary to be quite fun and modern and fit in well with the other documentaries on BBC 3. This is a documentary on BBC 3 called Freak Like Me it is presented by Russel Kane and it is about people with odd habits.

Our Expert

As part of our documentary we want to have psychological input to really get into the mind of twins and find out if there is any studies to show whether or not they can really feel each others pains and things like that. Me and Maddie both did Psychology at A-Level and we have been in contact with our psychology teacher to see if he knew of any studies which would help us and to also ask if he would be in our programme as our expert. He's just got back to me with a good article and to say that he would be more than happy to help us out and be in our film. We are so excited about this it feels like everything is starting to fall into place all we need to do know is find a 3rd set of twins.

Our Logo

Now that we have a name for our series we need a logo. I have drawn out a few designs and tried making them myself on paint but they don't look very professional.

I have asked my friend Holly to help us make them look more professional as I know she is really good on Photoshop and she has also just gone to uni to do illistration. I have asked her to do a few different designs and try out a few of her own as well.

I sent her my ideas (the ones above) and I also gave her this brief.
"I have attached my drawings of the logo so you can get an idea of what we want it is quite simple. I have also attached some fonts we like and my attempts at doing the logo.
The name of the show is "Seeing It From Both Sides" and every episode is going to have a different title and that's what that "Double Trouble" bit is but for now we haven't finalised episode names so just leave that bit out for now.
I just thought I would explain my drawings as well.
So the top one the stick men have their backs to the title and have their arms crossed.
The middle one the first stick man is peeking over the top of the S and the other one is hiding behind the end S.
And the last one the first stick man has his back to the S and and other one is sitting on top of the S.
The stick men just floating around are just extras nothing to do with the title but if you could make those for me as well that would be amazing. Again I shall explain. The boys are back to back arms crossed and the girls are hugging not kissing.
I was wondering if you could possibly do a couple of different versions. Like do all 3 with girls and then again with boys and also if you get time with black faces, white faces and maybe a smiley face just so that we can see what they look like.
I'm not sure about the background I think maybe leave it plan or have like a lined paper effect or something.
Feel free to have fun with it and change anything if you want to or make up your own.
Oh I guess I should give you the idea of the show so that you can come up with your own if you want lol. The basic idea is to have an interview with the twins and then a fun challenge as well like who can eat the most crackers or an arm wrestle or something."

Biggest Twin Festival

The world's largest gathering of twins took place this weekend in Twinsburg, Ohio.

More than 2,000 sets of twins and multiples took part in the event, which started in 1976.

The gathering provides entertainment, food, a twins' parade, music, and contests for the "most alike" and "least alike".

The city of Twinsburg was founded in 1819 by the twins Moses and Aaron Wilcox.

They were identical twins who were also business partners. The Wilcoxes married two sisters, had the same number of children and died of the same ailment a few hours apart.

At the festival, 10 teams of researchers study the pool of twins available.

Identical twins have 100% matching DNA, offering scientists the opportunity to compare between genetically identical people.

The University of Virginia is focusing on marriages, family and relationships.

At the festival, the researchers say they can compare "apples and apples", and try to establish, for example, why is one identical twin is happy but the other is not.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's Carlow University is studying how genetics affect our behaviour online.

How much time does each twin spend on social networks or shopping online? How many times they have been scammed? Is it nature or nurture?

Possible music options

We have deceided on The Velvet Undergroud's 'Im sticking with you,' as our opening music and credits.

But then we have also been thinking of other 'twin' 'sticking togeather' 'sister' 'brother' related songs. These are some of the few we came up with:

Bill Withers- Just The Two of Us

Hayley Mills- Lets Get Togeather

Al Green- Lets Stay Togeather

Sister Sledge- We Are Family

Eurtymics- Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves

Episode 3 script

This is the first script for our documentary. It is for our third and final episode starring identical twins 42 year old Susan and Sarah from Chelmsford in Essex.

Episode 3 Breakdown

Treatment

Seeing It From Both Sides is a light hearted quirky documentary. In its 5x 3minute episodes, 'Seeing It From Both Sides,' explores our cultures fascination with identical twins by meeting three different sets of twins from different generation and walks of life. With its comedic elements and 'you tube' format, 'Seeing It From Both Sides also challenges our identical twins to compete in our 'wacky' games that deceides, 'Who is the best twin.'

All 3 sets of twins will take part in a self contained interview that will answer questions about twins that we have always wanted to know the answers to. These interviews will allow the audience to get to know each set of twins indivually and what makes them so different.

Throughout the documentary, 'Did You Know,' type facts will appear in a graphic at the bottom of the screen. This not only makes thedocumentary more interesting but educational aswell. To add to the educational part of the series, we will be having a 'proffessor of psychology,' type charater that will appear in all 3 episodes to inform the audience of the psychogy behind twins and the things they do (eg shared dreams.) Our character will be a psychology teacher with a quirky personality that will deliever this research in a lab coat in a science room.

'Seeing It From Both Sides.' is aimed at 15-35 year olds. This is the age that will react best to its youtube like format we have adopted for this documentary. The three episodes are targeted at people with interests in watching BBC 3 and Channel 4 docs. We have found that this is the particular age that watch these channels the most.

However the fast paced, graphic filled editing style of this documentary will make it enjoyable for any age to watch.

Some More Good Answers

These are some more really good answers from the dad of 1 year old boy twins.

Some Really Good Answers

This is the response to my questions by the mother of twin 10 year old boys.

This is really helpful for our research as now have more of an idea of what its like to be the parent of twins.

This is Crazy!

This is one of the parents who contacted me. This story about her twins is crazy.

Challenges

So for each of our 3x5 minutes episode, 1 minute will be dedicated to a challenge.

This is where we will put twin against twin to compete them in silly, fun, little challenges. These will mainly be food challenge. I did some research into different challenges that we could for our episodes and these are a few that I found:

This is the 'Chubby Bunny' challenge. This is where each competitor has to see how many marshmallows in their mouth. However each time they put in a marshmallow they must say 'Chubby Bunnies.'

The doughnut challenge is where you have to eat as many doughnuts as you can in 5 mins (we would obviously shorten the length for our one) without drinking or licking your lips at all.

This is the Cracker Challenge. As crackers are so dry it is near on impossible to eat more than 6 crackers in 1 minute. So the challenge is to see how many crackers  you can eat in one minute.

Another idea for a challenge is to have a mental one, to guess what the other twin is thinking and draw it. The twin could give one word clues. There has been lots of studies in the psychology of twins thinking the same thing at the same time as if the were 'psychic.'

Graphics

Today we discussed the use of graphics within in our documentary. As we want this doc to be fun and a lot like a youtube video (snappy and lots going on) we researched into some well known 'youtubers' to see what style they used with graphics.

This is Jack and Finn that we have contacted about being in our series. They do a lot of you tube videos but this certain video was a challenge:

In this video they have used graphics to tell the difference between the two twins. They are not used throughout just at the beginning so the audience can differentiate between the two.

From this research we have decided that we too want graphics for the twins names so that the audience can tell the difference.

Another graphic that we want is to have 'Spot the Difference' circles on each of the twins when they are discussing what are the physical differences between them. For example:

As our documentary will be educational as well as fun, we have decided to have some fun facts for our viewers that will pop up at the bottom of the screen throughout the series. This fact will be next to a 'Did You Know?' graphic. This is a VERY rough idea of what we want the logo to look like:

For these different graphic ideas that we will need, we have decided the best idea will be to commission someone to make these for us. A few people we know are currently studying Graphic Design at uni so we are in negotiations with them at the moment to see if the are willing to help us.

Casting a Voice Over

Me and Maddie have had an audition on Star Now for quite some time now trying to find a good voice over for our documentary. We have had quite a bit of interest.

Star Now Voice Over Audition

We have been keeping in contact with all of the applicants and we sent them all a rough script with a brief of how we wanted it to sound.

We have had a few applicants send back their auditions and so far they all sound really good and it is exciting to hear them read out our script. So far none of them fit perfectly but we are going to chase the rest of them up and hopefully find the perfect match.

Parents of Twins

So originally we wanted to get older twins who had spent their whole lives together and are now living in a nursing home together but we were having a bit of trouble trying to find them. We have decided to change it and have our first episode from the point of view of the parents of twins.

I added myself to a few twin Facebook groups including one which was called "Parents Of Identical Twins". I added a post and I got a lot of interest on it.

I made contact with a few of the parents who replied to my post and I have asked them to answer these questions.

 Questions To Ask Parents

  1. Do twins run in your family?
  2. How did you feel when you knew you were expecting twins?
  3. What was the birth like?
  4. How far apart where the births?
  5. How did you choose their names? Was it a theme? Do they rhyme?
  6. Can you tell them apart? How?
  7. Do you ever get them mixed up?
  8. Do they have different personalities?
  9. Do you dress them the same?
  10. Do they have any other siblings? If so how do they and the twins get on?
  11. Has anything spooky happened like them doing exactly the same thing at the same time or reacting to the other ones pain?
  12. When they are older will you try and keep them together or encourage them to be individual?
  13. How do you spread you love and attention evenly?
  14. Do your twins get on?
I'm hoping that I get a good response but for now I will just sit and wait.

Skype Interview

We have just set up our first Skype interview for our Identical; Susan Fordham and her twin. We contacted these twins through our star now account and they seem really happy to be involved. This Skype interview is just to get to know them  a bit more and ask some questions that we could use in our documentary. They are 42 years old and live in Chelmsford. So logistically it is a viable and easy enough place for us to get to if we were to cast them as one of the sets of twins.

This interview will take place after our lecture tomorrow at 5pm.

Gillette Twin Challenges

I have just been having a look on Youtube and I have found some videos of Georgio and Dino from the Only Way is Essex taking part in head to head challenges. I have again downloaded them so that I can watch them with Maddie and hopefully this will give us further inspiration for our challenges in our own doc.

Twin Tag

My sister is a Youtube addict and anything you need to find on Youtube she will know where to find it. When me and Maddie told her about our Twin documentary and how we wanted to ask the twins questions on life as a twin she said "Oh you should defo check out twin tags on youtube".
Twin tags are videos of twins answering questions about being twins. I typed twin tag into Youtube and thousands of videos came up. I have downloaded a couple of them to watch with Maddie to help us get some more of an idea about what kind of answers we can expect from the twins.

Mac Twins Blog

I have looked through the whole of the twins blog just to get a better understanding of what they do. I learnt alot about the girls and their careers and they also introduced me to some undiscovered musical talent with their tune of the week feature.

The girls have done media coverage for alot of the UKs biggest events including the MOBOs and the Brits. Last October they also go the chance to go to Tennessee to cover the Jack Daniels Birthday Gig for Verge magazine.

As well as presenting and interviewing the girls also DJ and Host alot of different club nights in London as well as Alana having a performance school in Scotland and Lisa being a successful theatre produce and so to say these girls are busy is an understatement.

And when their not doing that they help host a weekly radio show, model and make awareness for causes they are passionate about such as mental health.

With all this going on they also find time to train with their personal trainer Della on a regular basis, Alana spent 6 days last month on a boat with 40 other youngsters to help deliver the Olympic torch to Dover and the girls are also training for a half marathon which takes place next month.

After reading their blog and realising how much the girls actually day it has made me realise that we are really lucky to have them as part of our documentary and now I just hope that their available dates and our available dates match up.

Fingers Crossed!

Looks Like The Mac Twins Have Answered a Few of Our Questions Already

This is the Lisa and Alana's first post for the Huffington Post and it seems they have answered some of our questions for us already which is a bonus.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/the-mac-twins/sorry-to-ask-are-you-twin_b_1821407.html

Sorry to Ask, Are You Twins?
Posted: 23/08/2012 00:00

For our very first Huffington Post blog, as an introduction, we thought we'd highlight and quell all the misconceptions about twins, specifically blonde, identical twins (as they will no doubt be peppered throughout our future posts too!).

"Are you the female Jedward?" Has been the most frequent quip of late. Okay, we understand the Celtic, blonde, double faced logic of it all and the the inevitable urge to compare us to an already manufactured product (Justin Bieber Vs Conor Maynard, Coke Vs Pepsi etc.), but it really is becoming rather tedious. If comparison is really necessary then at least trial us on our singing efforts or our ability to gel our hair vertically.

Here we've picked the top 5 questions we're repeatedly been asked and outlined our stock 'party line' reply:

1. Do you feel each others pain? Erm no, only when we're inflicting it on each other. Twins that claim they do are trying to claim a bob or two from a 'real life' magazine. However Lisa did once pretend she could feel it when Alana broke her arm for attention. Does that count?!

2. How long can you be separated for? Surprisingly if we spend some time apart we do not oxidise and shrivel into tiny balls. We were apart for 5 years, with separate careers and it truly was the best years of our lives. On saying that, our frequency of 'whatsapp' messages to one another, even when only a wall separates us, would perhaps alarm some people.

3. Do you fight over/share boys? Well despite our tastes being COMPLETELY opposite and thinking that fighting over respective partners is generally pretty futile in anyone's case, WE ARE OUR OWN PERSON. We shared a womb, yes, we share faces, yes, we tend to share opinions, but the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with/date - most definitely not. However if Ryan Gosling decided to trot into our lives...

4. Who is the good twin and who is the evil twin? We are not warlocks, one of us does not have to spawn from the underworld whilst the other floated in from a cloud. Like the average human being, we BOTH equally teeter on the edge of good and evil. However we did used to 'take turns' in misbehaviour according to Mother Mac, but presumably that was through default/common sense rather than satanic possession.

5. Can I have a threesome? Ah the glittering finale question and rather worryingly the most frequent of them all. Our polished and rehearsed retort proceeds as follows:

Man - "Can I have a threesome?"
Mac Twins - "Do you have a brother or sister?"
Man - "Yes"
Mac Twins - "Do you wish to bring them along too to join in?"
Man - *silence, sheepish sulk off*

As a disclaimer we should probably add that there are twins that feel each other's pain, can't bear to be separated, share boyfriends, adopt good and evil roles and quite possibly have threesomes, but they are the exception, not the rule. Glad we cleared that up. Now off to our shared bedroom to sort our shared wardrobe, to use our shared laptop and share todays thoughts.

The Mac Twins

Alana and Lisa Macfarlane are identical twins from Scotland. They are the UKs hottest new presenters, they have covered some of the UKs biggest music events including Wireless festival and the Brits as well as interviewing some of the most well known artists such as Ed Sheeren and Catherine Jenkins. As well as presenting and DJing on a regular basis they also both dabble in acting and modelling as well as Alana running her own performance school in Scotland.

From what we have found out the girls are obviously very busy people juggling their careers and personal life as well as taking part in a half marathon in October. We are going to have to try and fit our scheduling around them as they are amazing characters and it would be too good an opportunity to pass up on if we didn't. The girls sound very keen and we are quite flexible at the moment so it shouldn't be a problem.

Deadlines

We have made ourselves a calendar and set ourselves deadlines of when we want certain things done and what time we are going to dedicate to filming and editing. This is the calender so far but things may change once we have booked in contributors to be filmed.

Woooooooo Whoooooooo !!!!

Today we received an email from The Mac Twins management saying that the girls are really interested in our project. All we need to do know is set up a meeting so that we can talk the girls through the project more and also talk locations and then we are ready for scripting and setting a date for filming.

This news has really given us the lift we needed, we were beginning to panic about the lack of good characters. We are so excited about this project now!

Today I have been working on the 25 word pitch for 'Seeing It From Both Sides.' Ive found this harder than I remember so have been trying a few different ones to see which one sounds the best. This is the pitch I feel works the best but still needs work on it;

'Seeing It From Both Sides' is a 3 part documentry that explores the bonds and relationships between identical twins and puts three sets of twins to the test in this quirky fun series.

It is over the normal word count, so I will work on making it shorter and catchier.

Star Now Update

We have searched through all of the twins on Star Now and have emailed most of them. We have got alot of interested and now we just have to start auditioning them. We have started to ask if people would be interested in doing a Youtube video as an audition just so that we can get to know their personalities and relationship better and get an idea of how they would answer the questions in the actual doc.

We have also had alot of interest for the voiceover role. We are going to make a rough voice over script for auditions and asked the applicants to make a demo of that so that we can see if they sound right for the part as voiceover in our doc.

I'm really excited about this project now, it feels like its starting to come together :-)

Emailing The Mac and Frenchy Twins

I have emailed the Mac twins Manager (info@thehubentertainment.com) to ask if this would be a project the girls would be interested in. I have also emailed the Frenchy twins to see if they would be interested (thefrenchytwins@yahoo.com). And so all I need to do know is wait for a response.

Youtube Twin Documentary

Psychologcal research

We have deceided that a good part of a documentary would be to have some pyscological knowledge and research that has been done into identical twins. It would help us try and look and answer why we as a culture are so fasinated with twins.

To find this information and research it we have deceided to email our sixth form Pyscology teacher, Mr Scott. Hennie and I both studied the subject for two years and remember briefly being taught something about twins, but have emailed Mr Scott and asked if we can arrange a meeting to discuss more about it. This is the email:

Hi Mr Scott

Hennie and Maddie here, again! We were wondering if you’d be able to help us. For our Major project beginning in September we are producing a documentary on identical twins. This is a lighthearted BBC 3 type documentary to find out about the lives of different sets of twins and explore the fascination we have with two people being identical and living the same or in some cases different lives. We would like to add in some psychological studies and research into identical twins to give our documentary some psychological backing and were just wondering if you would be interested in helping us out. We were just wondering if we could arrange a meeting with the three of us, once school starts up again in September for you to discuss some interesting theories and studies that would make for good viewing.

Let us know!

Thanks

Hennie and Maddie
