Youtube Twin Documentary

Psychologcal research

We have deceided that a good part of a documentary would be to have some pyscological knowledge and research that has been done into identical twins. It would help us try and look and answer why we as a culture are so fasinated with twins.

To find this information and research it we have deceided to email our sixth form Pyscology teacher, Mr Scott. Hennie and I both studied the subject for two years and remember briefly being taught something about twins, but have emailed Mr Scott and asked if we can arrange a meeting to discuss more about it. This is the email:

Hi Mr Scott

Hennie and Maddie here, again! We were wondering if you’d be able to help us. For our Major project beginning in September we are producing a documentary on identical twins. This is a lighthearted BBC 3 type documentary to find out about the lives of different sets of twins and explore the fascination we have with two people being identical and living the same or in some cases different lives. We would like to add in some psychological studies and research into identical twins to give our documentary some psychological backing and were just wondering if you would be interested in helping us out. We were just wondering if we could arrange a meeting with the three of us, once school starts up again in September for you to discuss some interesting theories and studies that would make for good viewing.

Let us know!

Thanks

Hennie and Maddie

Ideas For Series Name

We have decided that we are going to have an overall series name but we will also have titles for each episode. We can't start thinking about the titles for the individual episodes until we know who we are interviewing and what the episode is mainly about. We have started thinking about names for the series though and these are the ones we have come up with so far.

  1. We first met when we shared a womb
  2. Womb mates
  3. Seeing it from the other side
  4. Its not a shame to be the same
  5. Two sides to every story
  6. Born with a life partner
  7. 2 in 1
  8. Mirror Image
  9. Same birthday different people
  10. EnTWINed
We are going to keep brainstorming and decide on our favourite on Sunday.

Tweeting

I have been on twitter tonight and I have tweeted Finn and Jack, the boys from the Twin Youtube video, asking if they would like to take part in the documentary. I have also asked the Essex twins Chealsey and Paige if they would also be interested.

The Mac Twins

I found these twins on Twitter they are radio presenters for Radio1xtra. I have messaged them to see if they would be interested in taking part in our documentary.

Hi Girls.
I'm a Broadcast Media student at UCA in Maidstone and for one of my units next semester me and my friend Maddie want to make a series of 5 minute Youtube documentaries about identical twins. Each episode will include a light hearted interview about what life is like being a twin such as have you ever switched places, do you really get on, were you brought up to be individuals or made to dress the same and be one. There will also be a fun simple challenge for you both to compete in nothing to hard just something like a game of snap or the cinnamon challenge. We would also need to get sequences of you together maybe at work or just at home or out shopping or something.
We wouldn't be able to pay you but we would be able to offer you a show reel.
Please let us know if this would be something you would be interested and if it is then I will send you some more details and we can set up a meeting to discuss further details.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Hennie x

Star Now

Today me and Maddie created a job listing on Star Now to look for twins to be contributors in our documentary and also for someone to do the voice over. We are hoping that there will be a few people who are interested and so then we have a bunch of people that we can set up meetings with so that we can decided who are the best people to use in are documentary are.

Message to Georgio

Georgio and Dino Georgiades are twins who appeared in a couple of episodes of ITV2's "The Only Way Is Essex". I have added them both on facebook and this is the message I sent to both of them. I am still waiting for a reply.

Hi.
My names Hennie and I'm at university studying broadcast media in Maidstone, Kent and when I go back in September I have to complete a major project. Me and my friend Maddie have teamed and want to make a documentary about twins and we were just wondering if you and your brother would be interested in taking part. We want to have 5 x 3minute episodes and each episode will focus on a different set of twins. We would ask you different questions about being a twin like have you ever switched places, do you hate having to share everything, etc and we will also have a challenge for you both to compete in either physical or mental to see who the better twin is. We would also like to get a few sequences of you together like on a photo shoot or on a night out. We want the doc to be quite fun and not to serious. We wouldn’t be able to pay you but it would be online and we could give you a copy for your portfolio/show reel. Please let us know if you would be interested and if you are then we can give you some more details. Oh and we would be looking to film in Sept/Oct time if you’re interested and would be available then.

The Worlds Most Identical Twins and Me Research

Today me and Maddie watched the Channel 4 documentary "The Worlds Most Identical Twins and Me" to help us get inspiration for our own documentary.

By watching this documentary we have realised that we need to get twins who have different back stories so that the audience stay interested and to also to give a different view on life as a twin. We also realised that we would like a voice over who will give vital information on each set of twins as well as statistics and historical and psychological information about twins to add another layer to the doc and link all the pieces together. From watching this doc we have also been able to think of what kind of questions we would like to ask the sets of twins in order to make it an interesting doc and answer all those questions people have about twins.

We have decided to go away and do some individual research and then join together for another production meeting on Sunday to show each other our findings.

First production meeting

Hennie and I had our first official production meeting the other day. The topics that we discussed were the format of our show, the genre and style of the show and also content.

Format
We have finally deceided on 5x 3 minute episodes to our documentry. This was the chosen format because, we thought 3 minutes is long enough to introduce each set of twins and enough time for sequences, interview and challenge.
We aim to have a different set of twins in each episode, so 5 sets in total.
We will also have a challege in each episode, be it mental or physical.

Style and Genre
The style of the documentries will be light hearted and warm with comedy elements. The audience will get to know the characters and find out a bit about them. BBC 3 is the channel we have in mind. As there is documentries on there that we like the look of, eg 'Jaz: Little Teen Big World.'

Content
We have deceided that we want each of the sets of twins to answer the same questions in their episodes. So the twins will be cast according to their different lifestyles so none two answers are the same. We drew up a spider diagram with possible question topics which I will include shortly.

We have some twins in mind that we have asked and are interested in helping us. So Hennie I will be meeting up with these shortly to discuss.

Channel 4 Twin Doc

Preview: The World's Most Identical Twins
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-worlds-and-me/episode-guide/series-3/episode-1

Mark travels across the USA and to Thailand and back to meet some of the world's most identical twins.
The spectacle of identical twins in matching outfits leading doppelganger lives has always fascinated the public. While some identical twins pursue their own individuality, others actively nurture their sameness, sometimes becoming famous and making fortunes on the back of being so identical.
Mark's journey of discovery takes him to Los Angeles to meet retired Playboy models the Barbie Twins.
Next to Thailand, where he encounters a 'ménage a trio' in which two identical twin sisters have married the same man. Mark broaches the subjects of jealousy and sleeping arrangements.
In Idaho, Mark encounters two sets of identical twins who have married each other, known as a `twin twin' marriage. But not only are they inter-married, they also live together as a family under the same roof.
And finally back to LA, where Mark tracks down the Jamison sisters, a pair of identical twins who claim they have psychic powers and even share the same soul. Despite being in their fifties Linda and Terry dress identically, have exactly the same haircut, and live, work, and chant Tibetan mantras together in their LA home.
But what is the cost of being so closely bonded? And could these twins ever live apart?

Youtube Twins

Abby and Brittany

These are mine and Maddie's favourite twins of all time. We would love to get them for our documentary but the odds are very unlikely.

Finding Some Twins

Obviously one of the most important parts of our twin documentary is finding interesting talkative twins to interview. We will look everywhere possible to find the best twins we can to appear in our documentary. We will place an audition on StarNow to see if we get any response from twins that way.
http://www.starnow.co.uk/place_listing/PlaceListing.aspx

We will also ask friends and family to see if we can find any potential twins that way.

We will also look across facebook and the internet to see if we can find any interesting local twins.

Hopefully we might be able to get some slightly famous twins who will have a following and will therefore want to be in our documentary to try and get their name out there more and show a different side of them.

Initial Idea

Me and Maddie are obsessed with twins and have been developing this idea for about 2 years now.

Our initial idea was to have a show called "Twin Win", were we would set different challenges for the twins to compete against each other in so that the winner would be crowned the best twin. We wanted to pitch this as our As Live idea but as we could not pitch together we decided that neither of us were allowed to use the idea and to save it for our major project instead.

We began to develop our idea and realised that maybe a twin documentary would be better and more logical to do as we would be able to include more content.

We are going to develop this idea and try and work out exactly what we want to show our audience.
